Harry V. Stott

December 13, 1922 ~ January 4, 2015 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Harry Venoy Stott, 92 of Choteau, passed away from natural causes on January 4, 2015 at Teton Medical Center. The Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 10th at 11:00am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Choteau with Bishop Mark Major officiating. Visitation will be available for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held at Choteau Cemetery immediately following the funeral.

Born in Mountain Home, Utah, Harry came into this world on December 13, 1922. At a young age his family moved to Bynum, MT. He graduated from Teton County High School and went on to attend the University of Idaho in Boise. He joined the Army Air Corps on December 11, 1942 and earned his wings in basic flight school. He then attended advanced fighter school where he mainly flew P-38s.

On June 27, 1944 he was married to his one true love, Verna Huffman, at Luke Air Field in Arizona. After WWII Harry, along with his wife and baby, returned to Bynum to join his father at the family farm. He obtained a job as a rural letter carrier for the Bynum and Conrad post offices where he worked for 35 years. Harry was on the Bynum School Board, was a member of the American Legion and International Order of Odd Fellows, and held numerous positions within the LDS Church. He also served as President of the Montana Rural Letter Carries’ Association. Harry enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking and being an amateur rock hound. In later years he enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with trips to Glacier Park and Holter Lake.

Harry leaves behind his wife of 70 years, Verna Stott of Choteau; daughters, Virginia (Mike) Rivenes of Butte MT, Alice Croxford of Idaho Falls ID, and April (Brent) Mecham of Sugar Land TX; son, Thomas (Colleen) Stott of Fort Shaw; 20 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Lucy Stott.
