Margaret Cantley

September 8, 1918 ~ November 17, 2014 (age 96) 96 Years Old

Margaret Cantley, 96, of Great Falls, Montana, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, November 17, 2014 of natural causes. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 20, 6 to 8 pm at Croxford Funeral Home. A funeral service will be in the Rose Room Chapel at Croxford Funeral Home on Friday, November 21, at 10:00 a.m. Family graveside service and interment will be at Fort Harrison Veteran Cemetery in Helena following the funeral service.

Margaret was born in Whittaker, West Virginia, on September 8, 1918, to Virginia and Clyde Bobbitt and grew up as part of a large family in the coal mining area of Gallagher, West Virginia. She met the love of her life in their childhood, and they were married in 1942 in Petersburg, Virginia, when he was on a three-day pass from the Army Officer Candidate School.

As the wife of a military officer, she traveled extensively with her husband and children, living in Japan and Germany as well as various locations around the United States. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who dedicated her life to family and home.

Margaret knew and loved the Lord and was a long-time member of the Baptist church, where she served as church secretary and clerk for over 40 years. She was an avid walker in her later years, participating with her husband, Gene, in the Ice Breaker run in Great Falls and Bloomsday in Spokane, which always involved a grand celebration with family, who also participated! She spent many enjoyable hours sewing, quilting and working crossword puzzles. Fishing with her husband was one of her favorite outdoor pastimes.

She is survived by two sisters, Irene Burnett and Ann Adkins; two daughters, Carol Fox of Mission Viego, California, and Mary Parrish of Spokane, Washington; and son, Gene Cantley of Belt, Montana; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene H. Cantley.
